Thank you for registering your trees with Taking Root.
This is a community wide initiative to plant one tree per person (two million) in the Tri-state by 2020, and everybody has to play their part. Please help us to spread the word about the current loss of tree canopy due to emerald ash borer and other issues, the many benefits of trees to the environment and our communities, and the need to plant more trees! One way to help is to take part in the Taking Root Tree Planting Challenge!
There is no dispute among experts that Pyrus calleryana and all of its cultivars (‘Bradford’, ‘Aristocrat’, ‘Cleveland Select’, and others), commonly known as Bradford Pears or Callery Pears, has become an invasive plant in the Greater Cincinnati, eight county Tri-State and beyond. For that reason, Taking Root has determined that planting these selections does more harm than good to the environment. We ask that you do not count plantings of Callery Pears towards the Taking Root goal of two million trees by 2020. We do ask that you consider instead the many other species and selections that are also beautiful, perform all the environmental services we hope for, and do not replace native species in greenspaces. Thank you.
